Yes and No

Officially? Yes, I am in Onederland. On Friday, for the first time, I passed the “eight days in a row” test. On that day I also hit a new low on this particular adventure: 197.5. Today, two days later, I’m up to 199, but that’s still below 200.0000. So count that ten days in a row.

So why the “no”? Well, it’s because I now have a new definition of Onederland. Back when I was 224 (or 229, or even 239—y’all missed those days) it was easy for me to think that “arriving” simply meant having the number start with one. That’s when I implemented the eight day rule. It certainly seemed reasonable that if I didn’t pop back into the 200s right away, then I’d arrived. What I didn’t count on was the “fear factor.” Sure, I might have weighed 197.5 on Friday, but I’ve gained 3 or 4 pounds overnight before. Not one of these past ten days has gone by without that thought in my head.

My new definition is, “when I’m comfortably in Onederland.” As you can see, that’s a bit of a fuzzy definition. It’s at that point where I feel like every last bit of danger has passed. I will grant you, this sounds like it could go on forever. Somewhat akin to when a person says he’s quit smoking. You don’t know if that statement is true or not until decades later when he dies and you can verify that he indeed did quit.

I won’t wait that long to make my declaration. But I’d still like to give it another week or two. For now, here’s last week’s graph. Hmmm… maybe when the entire graph is blank for a week is when I’ll “call it.” Whatcha think?

Day 231
Starting Weight 224.0
Current Weight 199.0
Change from Last Week +0.5
Lost So Far 25.0
Pounds To Go 10.0

The “bad” news is, as you can see, I gained a half pound over the week. The week before had a net change of zero, so I’ve effectively lost nothing for two weeks. But heck, I’m down twenty-five and I will not complain about it. In fact, I may just celebrate.

Who wants to join me at Long John Silver’s and see which one of us can eat forty chicken planks in an hour? (Answer: it’s me!)

Congratulations! I think you can call it now, but I understand the hesitation. I’m at the 4-month mark, and I still do my weekly weigh-in holding my breath.

Not a LJS fan, but if you’ve got a Captain D’s nearby, I could give you a run for your money. 🙂

Congrats, Charlie! Whether or not you want to admit it, you’ve officially entered Onederland! Now you may exit again, but for now, be happy and celebrate your success. I don’t know what the males of our species do, but I would get a massage or a pedicure or some new clothes or something. Celebrate the victories without fear of stumbling again. Keep up the good work!!

I get it Charlie. For me the definition means being around the 5 lb. mark between weights – for you: 195. Because then I feel like I wouldn’t gain enough to go back the other way. In fact I’m working on that right now myself and hoping that this week’s weigh in will be the magic one.

Doing the happy dance for you Charlie!

I am down 1.5 this week – let’s see if I can continue going in that direction!

Turns out I like beer too much!

Woohoo! I call that success!

I called myself 100% in onederland when I was under 200 for a week straight, so I would call you there too. I know though when I find the weight range I want to stay at, I’ll lose to the low part before I am *done*. As in, if I decide I want to be 135-140 lbs, I have to hit 135 before I’m done (so if I do something silly like go on vacation, I’m not worried if I indulge a little).

I think you should celebrate. You’ve done it! Have a pig-out, that’s what I’m going to do when I get to my next goal 3lbs away! Shakes up the metabolism,

Tusc 😉

Anybody else think of the movie “That Thing You Do!” when you see the word “onderland”?

Any case, you are there!!! Congrats, Charlie!
