Week 5: At Last!

Sorry for the delay this week. Gots lots going on, that’s all. So, in light of that, let’s not waste a lot of time on mindless jibba jabba. Let’s get right to the graph:

Graph: Week 5

While the graph looks good, it wouldn’t be a true Charlie post if I didn’t spoil this silver lining with a touch of gray. As you can see, the week ended on a new low point: 222 exactly. But you’ll see the week also ended on Thursday, due to my trip out of town.

As we all know, nothing quite stops (or reverses) a diet like temporarily relocating to a different city. This is due to the fact that the gravitational pull of calories in other cities is six times greater than in your city. Eat one little slice of well-deserved pizza and bam! there’s a two-pound gain for you.

In spite of the lack of data on Friday and Saturday, I did weigh myself at my mom’s on Friday morning. I planned on the weigh-ins during my stay: not for official numbers but simply to see what the relative weights might be. Friday morning was 222, same as Thursday. I missed Saturday but weighed in Sunday morning. It said 227.

My jaw dropped.

There was no way I’d gained back fifty percent of five weeks’ hard work in just two days. Granted, Saturday was the day of the party, and it was my highest caloric day since August 14 (about 3500 calories) . . . but still! That’s only about 1300 more than I’m supposed to have in a day. And it was just one stupid day and an overage of a measly 1300 calories. It’s not like I ate an entire twenty pound novelty Hershey bar.

Week Five
Starting Weight 233.0
Current Weight 222.0
Lost So Far 11.0
Pounds To Go 23.0

I’ll save the rest of the story for Week Six. Officially, I’m down eleven pounds, but we haven’t heard the last of the vacation debacle. Plus it’s a pretty sure bet next week will be my first up-week on this train ride. Unless, of course, I find some magical city where the gravitational pull of their food is only one-sixth that of home. And then I’m going to order a very large serving of fries.

p.s. Happy Birthday Bruce Springsteen! Oh, and Happy Birthday to you too mom! Here are a few other people you happen to share a birthday with: Kublai Khan (who would be 795 today), Typhoid Mary (don’t worry, I’ll get to some good ones), Mickey Rooney (see?), John Coltrane, Ray Charles (nice pairing!), Julio Iglesias, and Jason Alexander. How’s that?

Hey Charlie 🙂

Better late than never you slim person you!! 😀

I’m a bit lost with what I weighed last week so, as I weigh in again tomorrow I think I’ll leave my stats till your next weigh in….lol….if that makes any sense whatsoever 😀

You are bound to eat/drink at a party and the 5lbs gain is just water. I had a 3 day pig out myself and gained 3lbs ~As you say, you cant possibly gain after being only 1300 over (can’t beleive you counted!!! lol). It’s 3500 for a 1lb of fat, so the bible tells me….lol

Do you exercise at all?? Just wondering 🙂

Anna 😉

I get quite a bit of exercise. Mostly in the form of rolling my eyes at the scale.

What an awesome way to celebrate Kublai Kahn’s birthday! Nice on the weight loss. I find that amazing how you can “gain” 5 lbs. overnight too. Must be salt or just the scale torturing you over that big meal or something.

I am scared to weigh in tomorrow – I haven’t weighed in since September 1 – I think I had too many licks and tastes during all the birthday celebrations I’ve had lately!

I had the best hot dog of my life yesterday – check out my last post when you have time 😀

Your 1300 extra could not possibly have such long lasting deleterious effects. You’ll bounce back. I’m down 5 pounds in 5 weeks.

My scale says 199, Wii says 198, my daddy’s scale says 195, the chiropractor scale says 197. I’ll weigh in on Monday with my scale and believe that since that’s my scale but I sure did like my daddy’s. Calories have been fair until tonight with our friends here for steaks on the grill, red potatoes, sliced tomatoes and dessert… a chocolate bar. Well it’s still a loss so I’ll take it. Hey I did some measuring for the month of August I lost another 7″ of fat from top to bottom. For this year that’s 43″ and 28 lbs. I had to share Charlie.
You are doing great, I looked at your before, during and now pictures and am so impressed. Keep it up and I know you’ll get to where you want to be.
Thank you again for this challenge. Did you know there’s only 97 days left in 2010?
Take care and God Bless!!!
