Ten Things

Last week we got through the first five of “25 Random Things About Me.” I think it turned out pretty well, don’t you? I thought so.

Anyway, without further ado, let’s just get on with the next five things in this mess. In no particular order, I present The Second Five Odd Facts and Figures You May or May Not Already Know About Me.

6. When I was twelve, I auditioned for a spot in a children’s chorus at the Lyric Opera of Chicago. About twenty-eight of us were chosen out of 300, so I didn’t do too bad. We went on to perform in the premier of Krzysztof Penderecki’s Paradise Lost. I think it’s funny the composer eventually got a mention in The Onion. That’s more than I’ve ever done.

7. I have an inexplicable attraction to model trains. I’m sure it’s genetic—and therefore there’s no cure until you’ve spent forty-thousand dollars on a massive layout which serves no other purpose than burdening your children upon your death. Fortunately, I’m only about hundred bucks into it. More fortunately, I have absolutely zero time to spend on it, so I may escape this dreaded fate after all. That said, if anyone’s interested, I’ll see you here on Sunday in San Antonio.

8. I’m married but secretly dating Diane Lane and Jennifer Connelly. (Please keep that to yourself, because if Uma finds out, I’m dead.)

9. I spent three years teaching myself how to put my pants on both legs at the same time because I never wanted anyone to think I was just like everyone else, once I became ginormously famous.

10. I would like to be on the Ellen DeGeneres Show. Why? Well, she’s definitely very funny and I think I’m kinda funny too, so it might be an enjoyable get-together. (Although the real reason is I hear the guests get free donuts in the green room.) The only significant problem with my plan is feeling bad for all the audience members who waited months and months for their tickets, only to find out they’d just missed Orlando Bloom the day before me and Jennifer Aniston the day after. But oh well, that’s just their bad luck.

That brings us to two fifths of the way through this. Last week I asked everyone to leave a comment about themselves, but I think that scared folks off. So please leave any sort of comment you want today. Don’t be shy. Oh, and Tom wins the free one year subscription to my blog. Congrats!

Are you saying you didn’t LOVE the comment I left about myself last week? How rude!!

My comment for today:

I am extrememly bothered when I take the time to DO AS I’M TOLD yet a certain blogger fails to appreciate my efforts.

Random fact about me:

I hate needles. Deathly afraid of them. When I had surgery they had to give me valium just to put in the damn IV. I passed out donating blood when I saw the needle.

Needles are my mortal enemy…

I’m terrified of the dentist… possibly because the nerves in my mouth are wired wrong and they have to give me like, 10 shots of novocaine just to numb the right tooth!

True fact about me: I am one of the best as a participant in the field of spectator sports. I can watch a baseball, football, basketball or hockey game from beginning to end barely breaking a sweat. I once set a personal record of watching back to back to back basketball games during March madness.

As a disclaimer- The tooth extraction and the pain medication along with fluttering in and out of consciousness had nothing to do with my inability to use a remote that day, thus helping to set the record.

Aw, Hallie, you’re appreciated. I think the problem was that you were so much younger last week. You’ve matured a lot since then. I’ll see if I can get you set up with one of those free subscriptions soon.

I want to be on the Ellen show as well, but my reason is because I want to dance with her. We share the same mad dance skills.

Random fact: In 3rd grade I wanted to be a backup dancer for Madonna. My neighbor and I made up a dance routine to Papa Don’t Preach… I still remember some of it. 🙂

#9 – hehehe. I love it.

Random fact: my two favoritiest condiments in the world are pickles and olives. However, I rarely use them together. I will rarely eat a hamburger if I cannot have pickles on it.

You crack me up (as always).

My silly random fact .. my maiden name (Zaplotynsky) matches letter for letter with the Mickey Mouse song … a fact my friends in high school never let me or anyone else forget ….

Interesting facts. I’ve never tried #9, but I did go through a phase in grade school where I tried to teach myself to use my left hand (and I’m right handed).

My parents once made me hold a frozen turkey in my lap for all of 10-15 minutes. OK, they had a reason… I’d won the damn thing target shooting and we were taking it home in the car. But I’m still not sure why it had to travel in my lap.

I love model trains too. My grandfather growing up always worked on his trains.

Interestingly enough, my brother also auditioned for and got a spot in the Lyric Opera of Chicago children’s chorus when he was 12! His first performance was in Carmen with Placido Domingo. I spent many an afternoon sitting around there during rehearsals since my mom always dragged me along with them!
