When you eat a lot, be sure you also know how to lose them! Practically it's so easy to gain weight than to lose it :)

Oh, I've given all those things quite a bit of thought. If I had the answer to those kinds of questions, I'd write a book.

Oh wait. Already did. ;)

And, of course, the title was Why Your Last Diet Failed You and How This Book Won't Help You on Your Next One.

The answers to those questions I've been exploring for close to twenty years now. I continued, post-book, to explore the answers to these things in these two essays:

The last two years that I have given a flying fig, I've actually lost during "the season". Summer is the hardest time for me, I always stall out there. Maybe it's because I get cold and shiver a lot during the winter?

I decided to take the NaNoWriMo plunge this year. I am a little over 10% complete - a little behind but I have a marathon session planned on Saturday I'm looking forward to. This novel writing thing isn't SO hard once you just start it... good luck getting yours done!

I'm doing crap at nanowrimo - something doesn't give soon I'm scrapping what I've got (keeping the words though of course - it will just be the most bizarre intro in pseudoliterature) and starting over with something new and likely schlock fantasy because at least I can get that out on paper.

I am terrified of The Season as well - this is the time of year that I gave up last year. Completely. It's dark, it's cold, and there are treats everywhere!!

I don't know that I agree with Cynthia though, not about having a plan but about asking why - I mean, being introspective is always useful, but unless you live alone in a bubble and don't venture out or are some kind of scrooge and hate the holidays, the Season is kind of obvious.

I'd suggest that knowing you have a problem is actually a point of strength. You know what has happened in the past, you know what can happen now. Your family is supportive of your weight loss goals, right? I know your style is to eat less of what you want so it isn't really a diet, so maybe your wife and daughter can agree to simply have less treats around? Or share whatever you get? Have a taste of whatever comes your way but then hand the rest off? Chew lots of gum? These are just ideas - I hope they help.
