Attempt 105, Week 7

This was the first week where I went the entire seven days without keeping the food log up to date. That’s usually a bad sign, and—sure enough—it was accompanied by my weight going from 217 to 218 to 219. Fortunately, I was able to turn it around before it went too far. I ended up the week at—tada!—216. Again. For the 47th week in a row, seemingly.

Here, then, is this week’s graph.

Graph: Attempt 105, Week 7

Of course, that’s also last week’s graph. And the week before that. And the week before that. I think I see a pattern here.

Week Seven
Starting Weight 224.0
Current Weight 217.5
Change from Last Week +0.7
Lost So Far 6.5
Pounds To Go 18.5

I’ve been greatly curious about this “two sixteen” barrier. I’ve wondered if my current state: caloric intake, expenditure, metabolism, and all that—is it perfectly balanced to keep me at whatever weight I’m at? Or is it balanced to keep me at exactly 216? For example, if I could miraculously drop twenty pounds tomorrow, and nothing else changed, would I then be endlessly stuck at 196? Or would I creep back up to 216 and stay there? Like the little boy with the Tootsie Roll Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

I’ll leave you this week with a thought. I remember seeing several movies with Christine Baranski. And I saw several more with Cheryl Hines. And then a month or two ago I finally realized they weren’t the same person. Of course, now it’s obvious they aren’t the same person, but I just find it odd I went so long interchanging the two in my head.

Charlie,

I have been a long-time fan of yours. I wish you well on breaking your barrier.

I am currently on a diet which I will share. Not because it works: it doesn’t (see Elephant in the Room). Just because I feel like having it on the internet somewhere. It operates on the principle that if doing the [Blank] diet doesn’t work, then doing the opposite must work. (I took your Logic correspondence course).

Here goes: Count calories. Write them all down in a journal. Keep your calories under your BMR. No snacking whatsover. If you get hungry, suffer. You’ll get used to it.

I won’t tell you how much I’ve lost so far, because that would be irrelevent to whether the diet “works” or not. Which of course it doesn’t.

I like the way you think.
